In a significant development in the ongoing legal battle surrounding President-elect Donald Trump, a federal judge has temporarily blocked the release of special counsel Jack Smith’s final report in connection with Trump’s handling of classified documents. U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon made the decision to halt the release of the report to prevent any “irreparable harm” while the matter is examined by the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Judge Cannon’s ruling came after Trump’s former co-defendants, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, filed a request asking for an order to prevent Attorney General Merrick Garland from publicly releasing the report. This move was part of their effort to delay the publication of Smith’s findings, particularly those related to the classified documents case, which was investigated as part of Smith’s inquiry.

The judge’s order will remain in effect until three days after the Eleventh Circuit resolves the emergency motion unless the court decides otherwise. Importantly, Cannon’s decision applies to the entirety of the final report, not just the section focused on the classified documents case. While the co-defendants had only sought to block the release of the documents connected to the investigation of classified materials, Cannon’s order applies to the entire report, indicating that she is halting the release of both volumes, including any portions relating to Smith’s investigation of Trump’s election interference.

In response to this legal maneuvering, Trump’s legal team filed a motion to formally join the request to block the report’s release. The filing argued that as a former and soon-to-be President, Trump was uniquely positioned to understand the harm caused by what they termed as the “lawfare” tactics being used by Smith and the Department of Justice (DOJ). Trump’s attorneys asserted that the former president should be allowed to participate in the proceedings to challenge the potential harm the release could cause.

This filing was submitted shortly after the special counsel’s office acknowledged that it was in the process of finalizing the report. The office confirmed that Garland, who has the final authority on what is made public, had not yet determined which parts of the report, specifically those regarding the classified documents investigation, would be released. Despite the ongoing legal drama, the special counsel’s office assured Judge Cannon that they would not release the contested volume of the report before Friday morning, giving the courts more time to consider the motions.

Further complicating matters, Trump’s legal team sent a letter to Garland, urging him to remove Smith from his role as special counsel, claiming that Smith’s motivations were politically driven. The letter also suggested that Garland defer the decision on releasing the report to Trump’s incoming attorney general, Pam Bondi, arguing that the final report should not be prepared or made public under the current circumstances.

Trump’s legal troubles date back to June 2023, when he pleaded not guilty to 37 criminal charges related to the mishandling of classified materials. Prosecutors allege that Trump repeatedly refused to return sensitive documents, including those containing U.S. nuclear secrets and other critical defense information, and that he actively tried to obstruct efforts to retrieve them. The former president, alongside his associates Nauta and De Oliveira, was also charged with attempting to delete surveillance footage at his Mar-a-Lago estate, further complicating the case.

Smith’s investigation has recently come to a close due to the DOJ’s policy prohibiting the prosecution of a sitting president. As a result, Smith has moved to dismiss charges related to the election interference case and dropped his appeal of the classified documents case. The special counsel is now expected to submit his final report to Garland before stepping down from his post.

Democrats Love The Egg On Their Faces

If the Democrat Party wanted to be taken seriously, they would be telling all their allies and operatives throughout the Washington, D.C. bureaucratic outfit to lay down their arms against Donald Trump as soon as possible. That should have been obvious after Donald Trump’s resounding win when he carried all swing states in the Presidential election.

Instead, die-hard Trump-haters are apparently still trying to get Donald Trump right before he is able to take office in the White House for a second term. These legal attacks are entirely pointless because there’s nothing that can stop Donald Trump’s inauguration at this point. The Democrats and their Trump-hating allies are literally just seeking points with their own radical base, but it’s not going to work.

Even the legal experts over at CNN have recently admitted that it is simply a bad idea for Jack Smith to continue to wage his war against Donald Trump. It’s only going to backfire on the Democrats. The fact that they haven’t learned this is simply stunning, and any Democrat-friendly Americans who are left are going to be left searching for a reason to support the Party that looks nothing like the one from the 1960s through the 1990s.
