It’s no secret that the Democrat Party suffered a brutal defeat in the 2024 elections. The Republicans were able to win the White House and control of the U.S. Senate. They also maintained control of the U.S. House. And not only did they win the White House, but they won it in a big way after Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris by a wide margin in the Electoral College.
Many Americans viewed this decisive win by Trump and the Republicans as a mandate by voters who want to see drastic change in how the country is operated over the next four years. There are millions of voters who felt abandoned by the Democrat Party this election cycle because of the way the party has neglected to address key issues such as illegal immigration, inflation and the economy overall, and high crime rates.
Instead of addressing these things, the Democrats decided to focus on social issues like transgender rights or allowing abortion up until nine months. Even those who don’t consider themselves as hard-core conservatives don’t agree with abortion up until birth or allowing transgendered girls to play in biological girls’ sports. That’s why a large portion of moderate voters decided to cast their ballot for Donald Trump last November.
They were sick of the radical ideologies that the Left was spewing and decided that enough is enough. And now the Democrats will have to figure out a way to regroup. But it won’t be easy at all, because according to a new report from The Telegraph, the Left is suffering a low popularity rating all across the globe, not just America.
The Democrat Party in America specifically, used to be the party for the common man who felt unheard by the government and elected officials. But now it seems like that sentiment from the Democrats has all but faded away, leaving some of their base feeling disenfranchised. But where will they go from here now that their popularity is greatly suffering?
Left-Wing Politics Face Historic Decline Globally, Analysis Reveals
Left-wing political parties are grappling with unprecedented unpopularity worldwide, according to a groundbreaking analysis of recent election results. In 2023, Left-leaning parties achieved an average of just 45% of the vote across 73 democratic elections, a record low. The data, compiled by The Telegraph, paints a bleak picture for progressives, particularly in the United States and Western Europe, where they garnered only 42% of the vote.
In stark contrast, Right-wing parties secured an average of 57% of the vote, marking the largest margin in favor of the Right since 1990. This global shift against the Left comes in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump’s commanding electoral victory. Trump, set to take office on Monday, won the popular vote with 77 million ballots cast in his favor, surpassing the 75 million votes secured by his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
Experts suggest that the Left’s waning influence is likely to persist. Early indicators point to forthcoming challenges for Left-leaning parties in nations such as Canada, Australia, and Germany, where upcoming elections are expected to follow the current trend. “The trend is up. There is no real reason to expect that it will stop anytime soon,” said Professor Matthijs Rooduijn, a political scientist from the University of Amsterdam, to the Telegraph.
In Canada, recent polls indicate that Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is poised to take the reins from outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation earlier this month. Similarly, in Australia, the opposition conservative party has gained a narrow lead over the incumbent progressive government ahead of elections scheduled for later this year.
Experts attribute the Right’s growing dominance to several factors, including stringent immigration policies in the U.S. and parts of Europe. Jeremy Cliffe of the European Council on Foreign Relations highlights three additional trends bolstering conservative movements: “The globalization-driven decline of organized labor, rising identity politics harnessed more successfully by the Right than the Left, and a general tendency among Leftist forces to fragment rather than unite,” he explained.
Looking back at American politics, Leftists in the Democrat Party are going to need to do some serious soul-searching if they want to be competitive in upcoming elections, specifically the 2026 mid-terms. If they double down on the same strategies that contributed to their 2024 election defeats, then they will no doubt get shellacked again. They have to focus on the real needs of the American people instead of propping up pointless social issues that do nothing to improve the lives of the common U.S. citizen.
If they can go back to their roots of identifying with Americans who feel unheard by the government, then maybe they’ll have a shot at turning things around. But so far in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory, there are countless Democrats who continue to stick with their radical ideas and rhetoric that’s gotten them in this place of unpopularity to begin with.
How do you view the current Democrat Party? Do you think the Left in general is as unpopular as reports say they are? Let us know in the comments below!
I view the Democrat Party as a Criminal Communist cabal of haters and racists
I’ve never seen so many things go right for the right and go so wrong for the left. It makes me wonder if all these things coming together like they did are due to a higher power. Even the brutal cold weather causing the Inauguration to be held indoors, a safer place for President Trump.
