Bold Action Restores Order in the Nation’s Capital
President Donald Trump’s decisive “Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force,” launched one year ago on March 28, 2025, has delivered impressive results in cleaning up Washington, D.C.
Over 3,500 personnel—including 800 federal law enforcement officers and 1,800 National Guard troops—have been deployed to tackle crime head-on, successfully clearing out 142 homeless encampments with none remaining in key National Park Service areas.
Strong Leadership Drives Dramatic Crime Reductions
In August 2025, President Trump took the necessary step of federalizing D.C. police and deploying the National Guard, leading to hundreds of arrests—including a member of the violent Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang with multiple prior arrests and immigration encounters.
The task force has achieved a remarkable 11,205 arrests to date, encompassing 62 known gang members, 1,956 narcotics offenders, 1,036 firearms violations, and 30 homicide suspects.
These firm measures have produced striking drops in crime: homicides plunged 61%, motor vehicle thefts fell 53%, and robberies decreased 45%. Over 350 individuals experiencing homelessness were also connected to vital mental health services.
Rebuilding Safety, Beauty, and Pride in D.C.
Beyond enforcement, the initiative has focused on restoring the city’s appearance and accessibility.
Crews filled more than 240 potholes along the George Washington Parkway, installed new bike racks at iconic sites like the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial, repaired or replaced 148 benches, and eliminated graffiti across the National Mall and memorial parks.
The task force even reinstated the Albert Pike monument that had been removed during 2020 protests.
Concealed carry permit wait times were slashed from four months to just one day, empowering law-abiding citizens.
A White House spokeswoman praised the effort:
“For one year, President Trump’s Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force has been working in collaboration with federal and local partners to restore greatness to our nation’s capital. The task force will continue its critical work to keep D.C. safe and beautiful.”
President Trump has signaled that similar successful strategies could expand to other high-crime cities if local leaders invite federal support.
