Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland just reminded everyone why so many Americans have grown sick of the permanent impeachment machine run by Democrats in Washington.
Appearing recently on MS NOW’s State of Play, the senator declared that Trump has “committed impeachable offenses.”
That line landed right after host Peter Alexander asked him about grassroots Democrats pushing to impeach Trump if they seize the House and maybe the Senate.
Alexander put the question plainly: “There are some grassroots Democrats who have said that if Democrats take control of the House, perhaps the Senate as well, that they should impeach President Trump again. Do you believe that would be the right strategy?”
Van Hollen tried to pivot at first: “Peter, I think our focus should be on these issues that are top of mind for the American people. And that means dealing with the affordability crisis, ending the senseless war in Iran.”
Then came the pivot back to the familiar Democrat playbook.
Van Hollen added, “But it is important to hold this administration accountable for all its lies. For example, the fact that it still hasn’t held accountable the DHS agents who gunned down American citizens in Minneapolis. They refused to hold them accountable. Instead, they’re going after Renee Good’s partner.”
“So we do need absolutely to hold this lawless Trump administration accountable. That’s what we should be focused on as well as these other important issues.”
When Alexander pressed him a second time—“Should Democrats impeach the president if they take control of the House?”—Van Hollen did not back away.
“I think he’s committed impeachable offenses. I think our focus should be on dealing with these big economic issues and taking other measures to hold members of this administration accountable,” the senator stated.
There it is in black and white. A sitting Democratic senator is already laying the groundwork for another round of political warfare against a president who has been in office only a short time.
Voters sent Trump back to the White House with a clear mandate on the border, energy, and the cost of living. Yet Van Hollen and his allies cannot stop talking about impeachment.
Notice the careful dance. He claims the party should concentrate on affordability and foreign policy. In the next breath he recycles the same old charges about a “lawless” administration and unaccountable federal agents.
