Barack Obama Economist Rips Harris Price Controls Plan To Shreds

There’s probably not much that the Obama administration and the Trump administration could agree on. Though, apparently one of them is that the new economic proposals from team Kamala are absolutely insane and shouldn’t be taken seriously at all. That’s what one Obama administration official had to say about the new controversial price controls discussion.

Jason Furman, an Obama-era official who was the deputy director of the National Economic Council, recently shared with reporters at The Washington Post that the best case for Democrats is that these economic policies Harris unveiled on Friday are merely “message” and not “real.” He said if they are real, it will end up creating a national supply chain disaster and a “worse” outcome for consumers.

“The good case scenario is price gouging is a message, not a reality, and the bad case scenario is that this is a real proposal,” Mr. Furman shared with The Washington Post. “You’ll end up with bigger shortages, less supply and ultimately risk higher prices and worse outcomes for consumers if you try to enforce this in a real way, which I don’t know if they would or wouldn’t do,” he added.

Kamala Harris is hoping her message attacking “corporate greed” will land with voters and generate buzz for her campaign. The only issue is that this idea that “corporate greed” is responsible for the inflating prices of goods is not supported by the facts. A recent study released this year in May from the Federal Reserve of San Francisco suggested that arbitrary corporate price hikes were not responsible for the inflation of goods. Not only that, but profit margins have largely stabilized for companies.

Think of it this way. If a company is selling a burger at $5, but it cost them $2.50 to make that burger, their profit margin is 100%. Let’s say that the price to make the burger goes up to $5, so the company must respond with an increase in the price to buy the burger. Let’s say they make the price of the burger $10. Well, the company selling the burger did not arbitrarily increase their profits. They are still selling at a 2-1 sale-to-production ratio. It’s the same 100% profit margin.

Kamala Harris and her Leftist allies are looking at that scenario and saying it’s wrong for companies to maintain standard profit margins for their industries by raising prices. They apparently believe that the new price of the burger should only by $7.50, reducing the profit margin to 50%. Maybe the price of the burger should be even less than $7.50 and should be only $6, giving the company a 20% profit margin instead. This is anti-free market and is a major step in the direction of big government control of the American economy.

“This is economic lunacy. Price controls are a SERIOUSLY bad idea. They lead to shortages, severe misallocations of capital, and distort the ability to prices to signal the information we all need to make choices,” an economist for a major firm, Samuel Gregg, shared on Twitter (also known as X) in response to the news of the Harris economic plans.

On top of the communist-reminiscent price controls agenda, Kamala Harris revealed at the North Carolina speech that she also supports the federal government sending $25,000 to families to put towards a down payment for their first home, of course at the expense of the taxpayer. Kamala Harris did not explain how any of her policies would be paid for, though she said she would do this “and cut the deficit”. Of course, cutting the deficit sounds nice but there needs to be no deficit. As long as there’s a deficit of any size, the American people are on the hook for a worsening national debt.

Kamala Harris Takes Heat From All Sides For Radical Proposals

Right after the North Carolina event was over for Kamala Harris, she was met with a barrage of jokes about her communist-like agenda that Americans are largely finding not easy to stomach. It’s generally not a smart idea to push for any agenda that smells of communism given America’s long history of being deeply anti-communism.

When an Obama official is saying that he hopes your policy proposal is just a message and not a real proposal, you have to know you’ve messed up. Even the mainstream media is questioning how this can be a real proposal from the Harris campaign. Just listen to this CNN guest put these proposals on blast.

These proposals from Kamala Harris and her campaign aides are a little too on the nose for the criticism that Leftist economic plans often receive, which is that they are made up and have no real way of working. There’s no way to just promise more and more federal spending while you also address the national debt crisis. That’s a fairy tale land that doesn’t exist in the real world.

Just like how communism and serious government intervention in the economy of any kind sounds like it could be “fun” and helpful, but always turns out to be a disaster in the end.

Do you think these Harris economic proposals sound like shades of communism? Let us know in the comments below.

Her stupid idea is not workable! It would lead to shortages, hoarding and eventually rationing on basic necessities! Anyone who lived during World War Two can tell you about the ration card they had to have. Basic foods , plus gas, tires and other things were rationed. If your ration card was totally punched, you had to wait for a period of time to get a new one, because each item purchased was punched in your card. And—— you were not allowed to buy multiples of any item. That is IF you could find those items on the store shelves
