Governor Tim Walz Appointed Chinese Lawyer With Communist Party Ties To Asian American Affairs Board

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, now the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, finds himself embroiled in a growing controversy that raises serious questions about foreign influence in American government.

A recent investigation has revealed that in May of 2020, Walz appointed Chang Wang, a member of a political faction loyal to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), to a key state board overseeing Asian-American affairs. This discovery has shocked and outraged Americans across the political spectrum, raising major concerns about the influence of foreign governments — especially China — on the U.S.

While foreign sympathizers in government are not a new phenomenon, Walz’s decision to appoint someone with clear ties to the CCP to a state advisory board is deeply concerning. Wang’s role as a member of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) raises red flags, as CAPD is not an independent entity; it operates under the tight control of the CCP.

Despite the use of the word “democracy” in its name, CAPD is entirely loyal to the Communist Party and serves as an advisor to the CCP’s highest levels of government. Wang’s affiliation with such a group casts serious doubt on his loyalty to American values and his ability to prioritize Minnesotans’ interests.

At a time when everyday Americans are grappling with economic instability, border insecurity, and rising tensions with foreign powers, the last thing the country needs is leaders who are compromised by foreign allegiances. Yet, this is exactly what Minnesota faced under Walz’s leadership.

Governor Walz has had a long history of cozying up to China. According to reports, he has traveled to China approximately 30 times, and even worked for Macau Polytechnic University while serving in Congress.

These deep connections to China are worrisome, especially given China’s increasingly aggressive stance toward the U.S. Walz’s history of engagement with Chinese political and academic institutions, combined with his appointment of a CCP-loyal individual to a key state board, raises critical questions about his motivations and where his true allegiances lie.

Perhaps most concerning is Walz’s past praise for communism. In 1991, Walz reportedly told high school students that communism “means that everyone is the same and everyone shares.” While this might sound appealing in a classroom discussion, it ignores the harsh realities of communist regimes.

History is filled with examples of how communist governments, from the Soviet Union to Mao’s China, have led to economic disaster, widespread human rights abuses, and the loss of personal freedoms. It is troubling to think that someone who could see merit in such a system might now be on the path to one of the highest offices in the land.

America is a land of opportunity, where hard work and individual freedoms are supposed to be protected. Walz’s dangerous flirtation with communism and his connections to Chinese officials suggest that he may not fully embrace these values. His decision to appoint Wang to a state board that oversees Asian-American affairs could open the door to CCP influence in Minnesota — and, by extension, in U.S. policy at a time when tensions with China are at an all-time high.

The discovery of the appointment of Chang Wang is just the latest example of the far-Left’s cozy relationship with China. Time and again, we have seen prominent Democrats making deals with Chinese interests, seemingly prioritizing them over American workers and families.

From Joe Biden’s questionable dealings with Chinese business leaders to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s praise for Chinese environmental policies, the Left seems more concerned with appeasing China than protecting American interests.

In recent years, China has ramped up its efforts to infiltrate American institutions, from academia to corporate boardrooms, and now — alarmingly — into our government itself. The CCP’s influence is not just a faraway issue; it’s here at home, and it’s growing. Governor Walz’s appointment of Wang, someone who spent years advising the CCP, represents a serious threat to American sovereignty and security.

For over a decade, Wang has been affiliated with the CAPD, an organization whose members are largely intellectuals working in academia and the legal system, all under the CCP’s watchful eye. His ties to China are deep, and he’s been recognized by the Chinese government on multiple occasions for his contributions.

In 2021, for example, the CCP awarded him the title of “National Advanced Information Worker For Reflecting Societal Sentiments And The People’s Opinion,” further cementing his status as a key player within China’s political framework.

Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of this situation is that it follows a familiar pattern: the far-Left’s disturbing tendency to make deals with China, even as the CCP continues to act as America’s primary global adversary.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. As China continues its rise on the world stage, America needs leaders who are willing to stand up to the CCP and put American interests first. Walz’s track record of engagement with China, combined with his decision to appoint someone with ties to the CCP, suggests that he may not be the leader Americans need in this critical moment.

Does this appointment of an individual with such close ties to the CCP concern you? Let us know in the comments below.
