With only days until the 2024 presidential election, Americans everywhere are either voting early or gearing up to vote.

So far, the polls are not looking good for Kamala Harris. According to the RealClearPolitics polling map, if current polls are correct, Donald Trump will win the presidency with 287 electoral votes at the time of writing.

But make no mistake, the race is very close, with many states polling within the margin of error. Truly anything could tip the scales – including denigrating half of America like Biden just did.

Biden’s Blunder

In an online address from the White House, President Biden made an appeal to Latino supporters, urging them to back his chosen successor, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Biden seized the opportunity to criticize a remark made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who called Puerto Rico an “island of garbage” during an appearance ahead of Trump at a New York City rally in Madison Square Garden.

Trump campaign senior adviser Danielle Alvarez was quick to clarify that Hinchcliffe’s remark “does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.” Trump himself told ABC News he had no personal connection with Hinchcliffe: “I don’t know him, someone put him up there. I don’t know who he is.”

Speaking about Trump and his supporters, Biden said, “They’re good, decent honorable people,” referring to Puerto Ricans. “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters. His demonization of these people is unconscionable and it’s un-American.”

Later, Biden attempted to smooth things over, posting on X (formerly Twitter) that he was referring to “the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage.” Biden tried to clarify his point further, adding, “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I meant to say.”

To reinforce his revised position, the White House released a transcript that seemed crafted to modify the original statement. It read, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporter’s — his — his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.” However, in the live speech, Biden had plainly stopped his sentence at “supporters” before continuing separately with “His demonization of Latinos…”

One thing is clear: President Biden, in support of Kamala Harris, openly referred to Americans who don’t align with his chosen successor as “garbage.”

Harris was quick to distance herself from Biden’s comments. “First of all, he clarified his comments, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” she told reporters Wednesday. “I am serious, what I mean, when elected president, I will represent all Americans, including folks who don’t vote for me, and address their needs and their desires.”

But Harris’s record suggests otherwise. She has a long history of targeting conservatives — from pursuing legal action against a pro-life journalist who made undercover videos involving Planned Parenthood officials to demanding that conservative organizations reveal their donor lists. It seems that when it comes to demonizing those who hold opposing views, Harris may not be so different after all.

“The Elites Know Best”

Kamala Harris and Joe Biden are leading the charge in a growing trend among the Left: the elites who believe they know what’s best for other Americans.

Consider the demographics: Americans with postgraduate degrees, salaries over $150,000, and addresses in densely populated urban areas lean overwhelmingly liberal. A recent Napolitan Institute survey, conducted by Scott Rasmussen’s RMG Research, specifically examined this elite 1% and compared them to Main Street Americans, who fall outside these criteria.

The results show a clear divide. Among these elites, Biden enjoys a massive 82% approval rating, while his approval among everyday Americans averages only around 40%.

Rasmussen’s research also revealed that this elite 1% is far more likely to endorse progressive agendas, including expanded transgender policies, aggressive government action against so-called “disinformation,” more trust in government agencies than elected representatives, and stringent climate restrictions.

Even more telling, an overwhelming 77% of the elite 1% favor rationing private access to gas, meat, and electricity. This stands in stark contrast to mainstream America, where 63% oppose such restrictions. Elites also show a strong preference for bans on gas-powered cars (72%), gas stoves (69%), and even private air conditioning (53%) — policies most Americans firmly reject.

The study didn’t stop with the elites; RMG Research surveyed 500 federal government managers, finding that their views lined up closely with those of the elite 1%.

When asked, “Does the United States provide too much individual freedom, too much government control, or is the balance about right?” the divide between Main Street and elite America couldn’t be clearer. Most Main Street Americans (62%) believe the federal government holds too much power, with 33% saying there is “somewhat too much control” and 29% saying there’s “far too much control.” Only 13% of them felt that Americans have too much freedom.

In contrast, nearly half of the elite 1% (47%) think Americans enjoy far too much or somewhat too much freedom. Federal government managers largely agree, with 53% saying Americans have either far too much (17%) or somewhat too much freedom (34%).
