It’s often been said of the United States that it is a “melting pot” of ideas and diverse people. Certainly this has helped make America a dominant force as all sorts of ideas have helped make it the number one global empire for nearly a century now. Entrepreneurship has flourished in the United States and created the most dominant economy the world has ever seen because of the American project to accept all sorts of people with all sorts of ideas. That’s hardly debatable.

What happens, though, when radical progressive Leftists use this classical liberalism against itself? Well, you get all sorts of insanity being shoved down the throats of the people living in a peaceful nation. Just over the past couple decades, the radical progressive Left has forced extreme agendas onto everyone else under the guise of “acceptance” and being “open-minded.” This “acceptance”, in practice, looks like turning a blind eye to minors being allowed to receive gender-change surgeries and treatments.

Of course, Donald Trump winning in 2016 and then again in 2024 has been a major blow to the radical progressive movement. So much so that his win has destabilized the Democrat Party all together, with the favorability polling for the Party flirting with single digits quickly. The problem is that the radical progressive Left viewed the Democrat Party as a vehicle all along. They never cared about the blue team. They are ultimately red in their hearts.

Not red in the Republican/conservative sense. No, red in the socialist sense. The communist sense. The Marxist sense. And while they’ve been dealt major blows with their vehicle of choice, the Democrat Party, getting shredded to pieces by the unstoppable force known as Donald Trump, they’re not letting up one bit. In fact, they just won a major election that has millions utterly terrified of what’s to come next.

In New York City, Democrats just held their primary for who would win the blue team nomination to run for mayor in the general election. Winning this primary effectively wins you the race because the Republicans know they have virtually no shot of winning that race save some miracle of biblical proportions (that’s a prayer in written form). The primary came down to former Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo and newcomer Zohran Mamdani. Cuomo is your standard milquetoast Democrat who is extremely incompetent. Mamdani, though, is a radical socialist who wants to turn the city of New York into a communist experiment.

Mamdani is just 33 years old and is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America organization. Mamdani didn’t hide his socialism on the campaign trail, he wore it like a badge of honor. He campaigned on implementing all of the insane dreams of the Democrat Socialists of America as soon as he got into office.

He has unashamedly said he wants to completely defund the New York Police Department because it is “anti-LGBTQ” and “racist.” He wants to replace all New York City energy infrastructure with renewable energy, proposing a plan to replace all public school buildings with “green” energy infrastructures which would cost north of $3.27 billion. He wants to create a brand new city office just for the purpose of “aiding” the LGBT “community,” including plans to provide taxpayer funded “gender-affirming care.”

That’s all just the beginning of it, so strap in. He wants to immediately implement “rent freezes”, illegally requiring all landlords to lock in the price of rent on their own property that they own. He has shared plans to create government-controlled grocery stores where only “approved” citizens get to shop there and receive taxpayer subsidized groceries for a fraction of the cost (do you think he plans on letting straight white guys in?).

So he’s proposed a bunch of expensive government programs, sure. But it gets worse. He is also unashamedly a proud supporter of “globalizing the intifada”. You may have heard this phrase before, you may not have. What it historically has meant is violence against Jews in the Middle East and against Israel. There’s not an argument to be had there, that’s what it historically means. Mamdani says it really should just mean “resistance” for the Palestinian people against that “colonial project” in Israel, but anyone with three brain cells to rub together can figure that basic arithmetic out.

Mr. Mamdani has said that he will gladly arrest the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, if he steps foot in the city of New York. Mamdani argues that Netanyahu is guilty of “crimes against humanity” for committing a “genocide” against the Palestinian people. It should be noted that Mamdani put out a statement on October 8th, 2023 condemning Israel and defending Hamas before Israel had even responded. He found Israel to be guilty of crimes before they could even count the bodies of their dead civilians. Israel, an official legal ally of the United States, will not be able to send its Prime Minister to New York without risking him being arrested. That’s absolute insanity.

Okay, so this Mamdani guy sounds radical, yeah? Well he’s probably going to be the next mayor of the largest city in America. He won the primary. There’s not much that can be done about it and it’s about as close to a foregone conclusion as you can get. So that’s something (not) fun to look forward to in the coming years.

If there’s some optimism to be had here, I guess you could say that New York City is about to get a wakeup call in the form of failed socialism? Then again, do we really want to let socialism, communism, and Marxism take a foothold in the United States even if it does show itself to be a failure? After all, socialist and communist regimes rely on suppressing their people with the iron fist of the government as well as propagandizing them. Mamdani won, to be sure.

Who knows what happens next, but this win by a Muslim socialist in New York feels extremely eerie. It feels like something bad is around the corner. There could be a response from a new, young movement on the right that is banded together less by classical American liberalism and more by nationalist disdain for the insanity of the radical progressive Left. That’s a can of worms I don’t think anyone wants to open, but it may be opening right now.
