Hunter Biden is no longer ruling out a presidential campaign of his own. In a Sunday interview, the president’s son left the door wide open to jumping into the 2028 race.
Talking with wealthy grocery magnate and Trump ally John Catsimatidis on WABC’s Cats Roundtable,
Biden was asked about a run for the presidency. “If I get your endorsement, I may have to,” Hunter Biden said in response.
The exchange was striking not just for the content but for the company. Catsimatidis has been friendly with President Trump.
Hearing the first son float a run while chatting with a Trump supporter only added to the oddity of the moment.
When pressed on what would actually qualify him to serve as president, Biden did not refer to experience, achievements, or any record of public service.
Instead he referred to the Constitution itself.
“He is my qualification for becoming president, if you believe in the Constitution of the United States of America that you swear to uphold and protect,” Biden stated.
He went on to insist that the next commander-in-chief must “commit to one thing: adhering to the rule of law.”
For many listeners, the remarks land with heavy irony. Hunter Biden has spent years tangled in federal investigations involving taxes and gun charges.
A jury already found him guilty on federal firearm counts. Special counsel David Weiss pursued him on tax matters as well.
Now the same figure is testing the waters for a presidential run and citing the Constitution as his primary credential.
The pitch may play well in certain media circles, yet it is unlikely to persuade voters who remember Hunter Biden’s many controversies.
