The Democrat Party used to be the Party that could relate to the working class. That sentiment is long gone now. Many voters believe that the current Democrat Party only cares about the elite or “woke” issues. One of these “woke” issues that Democrats are currently obsessed with is transgenderism. It seemed as though they hinged much of their recent election strategy on trying to cater to issues involving transgenders and gender ideology.
Based on the results of the 2024 election, that strategy clearly didn’t work. A large group of voters supported President Trump’s stance on the issue that there’s only two genders: male and female. The shocking part about all of this is that many Democrat voters have signaled that they too have had enough of the transgender ideology pushed down their throats by their own Party.
In fact, a recent poll proves this. The majority of Democrats have decided that transgenderism isn’t something the Democrat Party should heavily focus on right now. Not only that, but those surveyed also believe that new leaders should arise in order to help the Party get back to being one that the working class can identify with.
Democrats Call for New Leadership and a Desperate Change in Focus
A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals a strong desire among Democrats for new leadership and a realignment of party priorities as the 2026 midterm elections approach. The survey, conducted from June 11-16, with 4,258 respondents nationwide, including 1,293 Democrats, carries a margin of error of approximately 3 percentage points.
The poll shows that 62% of self-identified Democrats believe their party’s leadership “should be replaced with new people.” In contrast, only 30% of Republicans expressed similar sentiments about their own party’s leaders. Among Democrats, 49% reported being “unsatisfied” with the current leadership, while 41% felt “satisfied,” and 10% were “unsure.”
Democratic voters also highlighted a significant gap between their priorities and those of party leaders. Only 17% of Democrats think the party should prioritize allowing transgender people to compete in women’s and girls’ sports, yet 28% believe leadership views it as a top issue. Self-identifying transgender Democrats are even quick to admit that the Democrats have bigger fish to fry.
“There are more important things to be moving the needle on,” said Benjamin Villagomez, a 33-year-old self-identified transgender individual from Austin, Texas, when speaking to Reuters. “There are more pressing issues, things that actually matter to people’s livelihoods.”
Even prominent Democrat leaders, such as California Governor Gavin Newsom, believe that biological males playing women’s sports is “deeply unfair.” While Newsom likely has his sights on a 2028 run for president and simply wanted to sound “moderate” while making that statement, his sentiment regarding this issue is starting to make waves among other top Democrats.

Economic concerns topped the list for Democratic voters. An overwhelming 86% said raising taxes on wealthy Americans and large corporations should be a priority, but only 72% felt Party leaders shared this focus. If Democrats can do a better job of focusing on the economy, they’ll be able to set their sights on becoming the Party of the working class again.
Similarly, 73% emphasized reducing corporate influence in politics, while just 58% believed leadership prioritized it. Other key issues, including affordable childcare, lower prescription drug costs, accessible health insurance, and support for mass transit, also revealed a disconnect, with voters perceiving less enthusiasm from party leaders.
Younger Democrats, aged 18-39, expressed particularly strong frustration with the party’s current direction. With the 2026 midterms approaching, the Democrat Party desperately needs to shake things up. If they don’t, it’ll be a repeat of the shellacking they took in the 2024 elections.
