Sen. Cory Booker is trying to sell Americans on the idea that the Democratic Party’s strategy to defeat President Donald Trump is “working” — despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

During an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Booker attempted to defend his party’s failing game plan when host Dana Bash bluntly questioned why Democrats “didn’t have a better plan” to counter Trump’s momentum.

She pointed out that the administration’s approach — doing as much as possible at once to “overwhelm the system” — was a well-known strategy outlined in Project 2025.

“Well, again, I think the plan right now is working in four parts,” Booker claimed. “One is a legal strategy to stop him from violating the separation of powers, from violating our civil service laws, civil rights laws and we’re winning. We see 41 cases being taken, 10 of them last week, 12 of them, excuse me, were successful in stopping some of his illegal actions.”

He went on to insist that Democrats are using legislative and oversight measures to block Trump’s actions and that media efforts will supposedly expose his policies as harmful to everyday Americans.

“Then finally, perhaps most importantly, because all of us have to have a role, from the media to everyday citizens, which is shining a light on the dark corners of what they’re doing and how it is actually endangering Americans’ lives, is threatening to raise the cost of people’s everyday goods and inflation and more,” Booker added.

Ironically, while Democrats claim to be fighting for the “average American,” they’ve been busy protesting against Elon Musk, whose Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been cracking down on taxpayer waste.

Musk and his team uncovered billions of dollars misused by USAID, with some of that money at risk of ending up in the hands of the Taliban or organizations tied to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Despite this glaring scandal, Booker continued pushing his talking points, even as Bash pressed him on the effectiveness of their strategy. She pointed to Mother Jones reporter David Corn, who described Democrats’ reliance on social media to fight Republicans as “bringing a teaspoon to a gunfight.”

Booker, however, remained undeterred. “Again, I’ve been blown away by what I’m seeing, by everyday citizens joining together and beginning to shine a much better light on what’s happening,” he said, pivoting to a bizarre claim that Trump’s policies were making Americans less safe from diseases like Ebola and tuberculosis.

He then cited former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, claiming that cuts to certain international programs would ultimately lead to greater military engagement.

“By shining a light on these things, by elevating, as we’ve seen online this past week, literally hundreds of millions of shares and likes, exposing what’s going on, this is giving us more strength in actually stopping him from doing what he’s doing,” Booker added, as if social media engagement were a substitute for effective leadership.

Meanwhile, Democrats are still scrambling to figure out why they lost in November. Rather than admitting that their policies have driven voters into Trump’s camp, leaders like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and DNC Chairman Ken Martin have instead blamed a “messaging” problem.

But the numbers tell a different story. Post-election polling shows that former Vice President Kamala Harris not only received 7 million fewer votes than Joe Biden did in 2020, but Trump also gained 2.5 million more votes than he did four years ago, making deep inroads with key voter blocs Democrats once relied on.

So what is it? Are Americans too dumb to see the nuance of the different candidates? Or is it possible that the Democrats lost because too many people were tired of their terrible governance?

Maybe Booker, Schumer, and the Democrats should look inwards instead of placing blame on those whom they pretend they fight for.
