Disgraced Democrat fraudster gets replaced by the last person you’d expect

Politicians can get caught up in plenty of unsavory actions. But this takes the cake.

And now a disgraced Democrat fraudster got replaced by the last person you’d expect.

Exposing Double Standards in Fraud Accountability

Florida Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick stands accused of serious misconduct, including stealing over $5 million in COVID-19 disaster relief funds and making illegal campaign contributions.

The House Ethics Committee already found her guilty of violating 27 separate House ethics rules involving money laundering, false statements, hiding financial disclosures, and accepting illegal contributions.

If convicted on the federal charges, she could face up to 53 years in prison. Yet some Democratic leaders, like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, remain firmly opposed to any expulsion vote.

Family History Raises Serious Questions About the Challenger

The leading candidate positioned to potentially replace her is former Broward County Mayor Dale Holness. Unfortunately, his own daughters have a documented record of COVID-related fraud that closely mirrors the very issues plaguing the incumbent.

In 2024, his oldest daughter Richelle Holness pleaded guilty to defrauding Florida’s unemployment program of $30,000. She was also involved in her father’s 2020 campaign finances as treasurer but avoided an additional plea on those matters.

Even more concerning, his younger daughter Damara Holness was sentenced to 20 months in prison for fraudulently obtaining a $300,000 Paycheck Protection Program loan.

She falsely claimed her consulting business employed 18 people, when investigators discovered it had none. She was ordered to repay the full amount, serve five years of supervised release, and pay additional fines.

Time to Demand Real Integrity Over Political Games

This situation underscores a troubling pattern where fraud appears tolerated or downplayed when it involves certain political circles. The Holness family’s involvement in ripping off pandemic relief programs highlights how easily public funds can be abused, whether by sitting members of Congress or those seeking to take their place.

“The American people deserve better than corruption in Congress,” as one lawmaker put it when calling for accountability on the ethics violations.

Voters in South Florida deserve candidates with clean records and a genuine commitment to protecting taxpayer dollars—not a revolving door of figures tied to fraud scandals. Strong oversight and swift consequences for anyone gaming the system, regardless of party or family connections, are essential to restoring trust in government.

This case serves as a reminder that combating fraud must remain a top priority, free from selective outrage or protection.
