There are a million reasons anyone could provide to give context to how Donald Trump was able to complete the most incredible political comeback certainly in American history. The Biden administration on its way out has certainly helped create a nightmare for Democrats over the next few years, because the American people have lost all trust in the Democrat Party. That’s why virtually the entire nation shifted to the Right on Election Day.
What does Donald Trump think actually brought home the win for him and his campaign? Well, it’s really nothing surprising. As usual, he keeps it simple and relates to the common man. He believes he won because the American people trusted him more to deal with inflation and secure the border. He said as much in his recent sit-down interview with MSNBC.
Trump Says He Won on “The Border” and Cost of Groceries
President-elect Donald Trump has credited two key factors for his decisive victory in last month’s presidential election: border security and the rising costs of groceries. In an interview on NBC News’ Meet the Press, Trump explained, “I won on the border, and I won on groceries.”
Trump focused heavily on the sharp increase in grocery prices as a major motivator for voters backing his candidacy. “Very simple word, groceries,” Trump said. “Like almost – you know, who uses the word? I started using the word – the groceries. When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time, and I won an election based on that.” The comments were part of an interview recorded on Friday and aired Sunday, where Trump emphasized how much the cost of everyday food had skyrocketed under the current administration.

Although inflation has moderated since its peak in 2022, grocery prices continue to be much higher than pre-pandemic levels. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, recent data from the Consumer Price Index shows that Americans are now paying 22% more for groceries than they did when President Joe Biden took office nearly four years ago.
This sharp increase in food costs played a critical role in Trump’s victory, with many voters expressing frustration over inflation’s impact. According to the Fox News Voter Analysis of the 2024 election, the economy was by far the most pressing issue for voters, followed by concerns over immigration and abortion. Furthermore, 40% of voters stated that inflation was the most important factor influencing their vote, and they overwhelmingly supported Trump by nearly two-to-one. An AP VoteCast survey, which gathered responses from more than 120,000 registered voters, revealed similar results.
During his campaign, Trump relentlessly criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the economy, vowing to reduce costs. At an August news conference, Trump pointed to the sky-high prices of groceries, declaring, “Grocery prices have skyrocketed.” He assured his supporters that, should he win, he would take immediate action to bring those prices down. “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on day one,” he promised. In his Meet the Press interview, Trump reiterated, “We’re going to bring those prices way down.”
It’s absolutely ironic that Donald Trump is the richest President in American history but he’s been able to connect with average Americans who are dealing with inflation which is ravaging their bank accounts and savings. That irony is so rich, it should truly give the Democrats a reason to look themselves in the mirror and change up their approach.
Even though Joe Biden’s “win” in 2020 is now viewed with more skepticism than ever after Kamala Harris underperformed Joe Biden by some twelve million votes or so, the reality is that Biden at least had some degree of relatability and likability to him. He has had a career being known as “union Joe” and “Scranton Joe,” which obviously helped him in the Rust Belt to earn votes.
Kamala Harris had none of this. She was a California prosecutor who has spent her life pushing for the most radical agendas for the “progressive” Left. Then, when it came time for her to perform on the national stage, she couldn’t get past all of the incriminating past she has. There’s simply too much footage of her pushing for policies that she renounced during the 2024 general election.
Donald Trump, on the other hand, doesn’t even try to play games and pay lip service to Americans like so many politicians do. He’s just honest and straightforward about what he believes. Say what you want about the stunt, but this is why the McDonald’s “shift” for Donald Trump was pure genius. He knew the Democrats from their ivory towers would never do such a thing.

It didn’t matter that Donald Trump wasn’t a real McDonald’s worker and likely hasn’t had to ever worry about paying for bills on a McDonald’s worker’s wage. The point is that he was exposing the political class and their refusal to listen to the American people. Donald Trump shows he’s listening when he says he won on border security and the cost of groceries.
