The southern border of the United States has been a problem for politicians across the aisle for years. For most Republicans, it is about figuring out how to fight back against the flow of illegal aliens coming into this country.

On the other hand, Democrats of yesteryear may have cared, lately they want the issue to go away without ever offering a solution – that, without ever offering one that doesn’t involve giving criminals citizenship.

But while the big wigs in Washington, D.C. are endlessly debating over the right path forward for those already here, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris decided to allow record numbers of illegal aliens into this country – despite having the power to do otherwise.

Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) released a scathing report detailing the extent of the damage.

In it, Roy and his team detail how:

Since January 2021, over 8.5 million illegal aliens have crossed the southern border, which is greater than the population of 37 U.S. states.1,2 In fact, under the Biden-Harris administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) encounters at the southern border are nearly four times higher, on average per month, than the levels we saw during the Trump administration.

The sordid reality of the southern border crisis is laid bare by countless unsettling truths listed in the report, including the following:

• Migrant deaths have skyrocketed under the Biden-Harris administration. In FY 2022, a record 853 foreign nationals died attempting to cross the southern border
• In 2023, fentanyl poisonings killed nearly 75,000 Americans – an average of over 200 deaths a day – most of this illicit fentanyl is made by Mexican drug cartels using Chinese chemicals and smuggled across the southern border
• At least 99 illegal aliens on the terror watchlist were released into the U.S. after being apprehended at the southern border between fiscal years 2021 and 2023
• So far in FY 2024, 35,399 Chinese nationals entered the U.S. through the southern border, surpassing the previous record of 24,314 Chinese nationals in FY 2023.

Facilitating an invasion

The fact of the matter is that the Biden-Harris administration has been letting many of these illegal aliens off scot-free, with the added benefit of it running mostly under the radar of Americans.

Our laws state that foreigners who enter the United States unlawfully “shall be detained” pending their immigration court hearings. However, during the Biden-Harris administration, they are apprehended and nearly all are immediately freed, frequently with federally sponsored tickets to anywhere in the country.

Under their mass parole programs around 70,000 inadmissible aliens per month have been let into the country.

But in early August, the Department of Homeland Security hit the brakes on a controversial program that was funneling 30,000 inadmissible aliens a month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela into the U.S. Why did they suddenly decide to pause it?

It wasn’t because this program clearly violated the law and disregarded Congress’s intent to limit the executive branch’s parole powers, as Art Arthur from the Center for Immigration Studies has pointed out.

It wasn’t due to the fact that DHS can’t vet applicants from these four countries, which either lack organized criminal records or are hostile enough to refuse sharing them.

And it certainly wasn’t because these parole recipients have been draining taxpayer resources—gobbling up free food, clothing, and shelter—while contributing to urban chaos and, in some cases, committing violent crimes, including murder.

No, the reason DHS hit pause was the overwhelming fraud plaguing the program, which had become too blatant to ignore. Normally, under the watchful eyes of political appointees, dysfunction gets swept under the rug. But a recent report from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, obtained by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, blew the lid off just how bad things had gotten.

People were applying to be “financial supporters” of these paroled migrants, using fake Social Security numbers or even those of deceased individuals. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services defines a financial supporter as anyone who “agrees to provide financial support to the beneficiary [the paroled alien] during their stay in the U.S.” The fraud was astounding: multiple applications from the same address, phone number, or email, with identical language used in each. One Florida warehouse alone had nearly 600 “supporters” registered. Incredibly, 3,200 mega-supporters applied to sponsor a staggering 100,000 migrants, averaging 30 apiece.

Despite this farce, DHS approved nearly half a million supporters and the aliens they supposedly vouched for. The whole system was a sham, but it took a public embarrassment to force them to pause the program.
