House Judiciary Chairman Teases Subpoenas For Democrat Adam Schiff and Fmr AG Garland

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, announced Tuesday that he has placed former top Obama administration official Attorney General Merrick Garland and Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., on notice for potential testimony regarding leaked intelligence tied to the discredited Russiagate scandal. Jordan’s declaration signals a renewed Republican push to hold Democrats accountable for what many view as a politically motivated witch hunt against President Donald Trump.

“Yeah, I would like to probably talk to the individual who did the 302,” Jordan said on the Just the News, No Noise TV show when asked if Garland and Schiff should testify. “I assume there’s a 302 done. We just got this information. We’re just digging through it.” This is a reference to an FBI 302 form, used to document witness interviews.

The revelations stem from FBI 302 interview reports obtained by reporters, detailing claims from a Democratic intelligence officer who served on the House Intelligence Committee for over a decade. This insider repeatedly alerted the FBI starting in 2017 that then-Rep. Adam Schiff sanctioned the release of classified information to tarnish Trump’s presidency amid the Russiagate probe, now widely dismissed as baseless.

The Russiagate saga, which gripped the nation from 2016 onward, began with accusations that Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to sway the election. Conservative analysts have long argued it was a fabricated narrative orchestrated by Hillary Clinton’s allies and Obama-era officials to derail Trump’s bid. Declassified documents released in 2025 by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard bolster this view, alleging a “treasonous conspiracy” involving Obama, his administration, and Clinton’s team.

Public opinion polls from Rasmussen Reports show that 60% of likely voters now see Russiagate as a “serious scandal,” with officials manufacturing intelligence to push a false collusion story. Yet, only 28% expect charges against those involved, highlighting widespread distrust in federal institutions long accused of shielding Democratic elites.

The whistleblower, a self-described Democrat and acquaintance of both Schiff and former Republican House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, labeled the leaks as “unethical,” “illegal,” and “treasonous.” He claimed staff were reassured not to fret, as Schiff believed the Constitution’s speech and debate clause would shield him from prosecution.

No formal legal opinion from the attorney general or solicitor general supports this interpretation. Officials informed reporters that the Department of Justice under previous administrations displayed minimal interest in probing Schiff, fueling conservative outrage over a two-tiered justice system that protects liberals while targeting conservatives.

“In my mind, I always say everything’s on the table,” Jordan said. “The American people deserve the truth. People who did real wrongdoing should be held accountable. So we’ll evaluate all that.” His comments reflect growing Republican demands for transparency in a scandal that conservatives say eroded faith in democracy.

Jordan also criticized former FBI Director Chris Wray for withholding key details from Congress. “We didn’t get this information from Chris Wray,” he said. “We got it from Kash Patel, who was actually trying to get the truth out to the American people. For some reason, this was never given to us by Director Wray.”

Patel, now FBI Director, has been instrumental in exposing Russiagate as a hoax. This year, he declassified documents revealing hidden evidence and accused prior FBI leadership of concealing files to protect political allies. Patel’s efforts align with conservative narratives that Russiagate was a deep-state plot to undermine Trump’s America First agenda.

Jordan indicated consultations with legal experts are underway to navigate the sensitive intelligence. “I think the first step is for us to consult with our lawyers on House Counsel…right on speech and debate [and] how that would apply, and with the facts of this situation here,” he said.

The whistleblower’s account echoes other allegations against Schiff, who conservatives accuse of fueling Russiagate hysteria through media leaks and promoting the debunked Steele dossier. A 2025 whistleblower memo detailed Schiff convening staff to direct leaks of derogatory classified material against Trump, with the goal of indicting him.

Jordan praised whistleblowers for their courage, contrasting them with IRS agents Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, who faced retaliation for exposing Hunter Biden probe irregularities. “The retaliation that they’ve experienced was as wrong as it gets,” he said. “Let’s hope this doesn’t happen to this whistleblower in the broader sense.”

As Garland faces scrutiny for his role in overseeing the Durham report—which criticized FBI mishandling but yielded few convictions—conservatives question if the Biden-era DOJ will allow full accountability. Durham’s 2023 findings slammed the FBI for bias and reliance on Clinton-funded opposition research, yet no high-level Democrats faced charges.
