Leading Democrat calls on CNN to do the unthinkable

THE ULTIMATE LEFT-WING MEDIA MOVE: DEMAND A CONSERVATIVE GET FIRED

Jim Acosta has found his calling since leaving CNN in 2025. With his own independent show and no corporate guardrails to answer to, the former White House correspondent has fully leaned into the role of left-wing media enforcer — and his latest target is Scott Jennings, the conservative commentator whose on-air clash with a MeidasTouch activist Thursday became one of the most viral cable moments of the year.

“It’s appalling and it’s a fireable offense. I think he should be fired. I’ve been saying for some time. He should be fired,” Acosta said on Friday’s episode of The Jim Acosta Show, piling on in the aftermath of Jennings’ blunt exchange with panelist Adam Mockler on CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip.

“He’s been getting away with this crap for so long,” Acosta said. “I mean they should just hand him his boxes today and tell him to get the h*ll out.”

The irony of Jim Acosta — who turned his own CNN stint into an eight-year exercise in performative antagonism toward the Trump administration — lecturing anyone about professional standards is not lost on observers. Acosta was himself something of a cable news lightning rod, famous for his contentious briefing room confrontations, his White House press pass revocation, and an on-air style that many viewers found indistinguishable from partisan advocacy. That he is now the designated arbiter of what constitutes professional conduct on cable television would be remarkable, if it weren’t so predictable.

WHAT ACOSTA IS REALLY OBJECTING TO

What Acosta characterizes as a fireable breach of decorum is, more accurately, a conservative commentator who refused to be physically crowded and said so directly. During Thursday’s panel on CNN, Mockler got aggressive — physically as well as rhetorically — as the argument over Iran war strategy intensified. Jennings responded: “Get your f—ing hand out of my face.”

Mockler, an influencer for the left-wing MeidasTouch network rather than a journalist or credentialed analyst, had spent the segment accusing Jennings of defending an endless war and lobbing personal digs about his age and prior government work. Jennings, characteristically, gave as good as he got. “You have the attention span of a gnat,” he shot back at one point.

After the segment, Mockler took to X to contest Jennings’ version of events: “Scott Jennings claimed I got in his face; Watch what actually happened in the full CNN segment. He throws a personal jab… then folds the second he gets pressed. Scott loves to dish it but can’t take it.” The viewers who watched the full, unedited segment were left to draw their own conclusions.

Acosta had praise for CNN anchor Abby Phillip, who he credited with de-escalating the confrontation — a concession that someone in the room felt the need to de-escalate and that the temperature in that conversation had indeed risen to an unusual level.

THE BROADER TAKEAWAY: WHAT THIS FIGHT IS REALLY ABOUT

What the left finds genuinely threatening about Scott Jennings is not that he uses coarse language — cable news panels are not famous for their Victorian restraint. What is threatening is that he is a conservative who can hold his own in an adversarial environment, articulate a clear strategic case for the administration’s Iran posture, and refuse to be talked over, shouted down, or physically pressured into submission.

Jennings and Acosta worked at CNN together for eight years. During that time, by Acosta’s own public record, he never appears to have called for any of his liberal colleagues to be fired for comparable heat during contentious segments. The demand that Jennings be terminated did not arise from a principled concern about professional standards — it arose from the left’s fundamental intolerance for a conservative voice that won’t be dislodged by the usual tactics. Acosta knows that. So does everyone watching.
