New Poll Shows Majority Agree With Trump On Transgender Issues

In recent years, the radical Left’s push for policies like transgenderism has created heated debates, but a growing wave of discontent is emerging—even among moderate and left-leaning Americans. Once championed as progressive ideals, these policies are losing traction as many question their impact on society, science, and individual rights.

From concerns about fairness in sports to the protection of minors from irreversible medical interventions, a significant portion of the public is reevaluating the Left’s agenda. This shift reflects a deeper desire for clarity and common sense, as Americans across the political spectrum grapple with the real-world consequences of ideologies that prioritize identity over observable reality.

For moderate Democrats and independents, the unease is palpable. Policies promoting “gender-affirming care” for minors, including puberty blockers and surgeries, are increasingly seen as experimental and risky. Many who once supported these measures out of compassion are now questioning their long-term effects, especially as stories of regret and medical complications surface. Even left-leaning voters, traditionally aligned with progressive causes, are distancing themselves from what they perceive as an overreach by activists who dismiss dissenting voices. This growing skepticism signals a cultural pivot, as Americans demand policies grounded in evidence and reason.

Polling Reveals Most Americans Align With Trump On Transgenderism

A new AP-NORC poll conducted between May 1-5, 2025, with 1,175 U.S. adults reveals a clear trend: Americans are increasingly rejecting the notion that gender can be divorced from biological reality. The survey, with a margin of error of ±4 percentage points, shows that 68 percent of Americans believe “Whether someone is a man or a woman is determined by their biological characteristics at birth.” Only 31 percent hold that “Someone can be a man or a woman even if that identity is different from their biological characteristics at birth.” This marks a significant departure from earlier surveys, suggesting a public awakening to the primacy of biology.

This shift isn’t confined to one political group. Among Democrats, 44 percent now prioritize biological reality over “gender identity.” Republicans, who are almost in 90 percent agreement, and independents, at 74 percent, further solidify this trend. Meanwhile, 54 percent of Democrats still cling to the idea of “gender identity” over biology, but the erosion of support within their ranks is striking. Compared to a 2022 Economist/YouGov survey, where 66 percent of Democrats endorsed fluid gender identities, the drop to 54 percent signals a growing divide within the party.

Public opinion also leans heavily against funding medical interventions for transgender-identifying individuals. The poll finds that 66 percent of Americans oppose public health insurance programs like Medicare or Medicaid covering “gender-affirming medical treatment, such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy” for those under 19 identifying as transgender or nonbinary.

Opposition spans party lines: 44 percent of Democrats, a majority of independents, and most Republicans reject such coverage. Only 30 percent of Democrats support it. For adults 19 and older, 53 percent oppose public funding for drugs and surgeries often labeled “gender-affirming care,” with 30 percent of Democrats, 45 percent of independents, and 82 percent of Republicans in agreement.

The survey goes further, revealing that 46 percent of Americans favor banning these medical interventions for minors outright, regardless of who pays. This sentiment reflects deep concerns about the irreversible nature of such treatments, particularly for young people navigating complex identity questions. On school policies, 43 percent support “requiring public school teachers to report to parents if their children are identifying as transgender or nonbinary at school,” while 55 percent oppose allowing students to use bathrooms aligned with their self-proclaimed “gender identity” instead of their biological s*x.

Military service for transgender individuals remains a divisive issue, with 37 percent in favor, 26 percent opposed, and 36 percent neutral. Yet, even here, the public’s cautious stance suggests a preference for policies rooted in practical considerations over ideological mandates.

The poll also highlights strong approval for President Donald Trump’s approach to these issues, with 52 percent of Americans backing his handling of transgender policies. This includes 90 percent of Republicans, 48 percent of independents, and, surprisingly, 19 percent of Democrats—despite only 9 percent approving of his overall presidency.

Trump’s actions have resonated with many. His executive orders affirm the reality of two s*xes, protect female sports and spaces from transgender-identifying males, and shield minors from life-altering drugs and surgeries. His administration is also holding institutions accountable for promoting gender ideology and working to remove transgender-identifying individuals from military service. These moves align with a public increasingly wary of policies that blur biological distinctions.

Historical context highlights the significance of these findings. A 2021 Harvard/Harris poll found 62 percent of Americans believed s*x is unchangeable—six points lower than today’s 68 percent. A 2022 Economist/YouGov survey reported only 56 percent held this view, making the current data a stark contrast. The shift among Democrats is particularly telling, as their support for fluid gender identities has waned over time. This evolution suggests Americans are not only rejecting extreme ideologies but also seeking a return to policies that reflect observable truths.

As the nation moves forward, the AP-NORC poll signals a turning point. From classrooms to medical facilities, Americans are demanding clarity and accountability. The radical Left’s once-dominant narrative is faltering, replaced by a growing consensus that biology matters—and that policies must reflect this reality to serve the common good.
