New Poll Shows Majority Of Voters Disapprove Of Taxpayer-Funded Gender Treatments

Americans obviously don’t like it when their taxes are being put to waste. Almost all Americans don’t like having to pay taxes in general, but it’s especially burdensome when taxpayer-funds are used for pointless government programs or initiatives that are simply a waste of time and resources.

In recent years there’s been a heated debate about taxpayer-funded treatment for those wishing to undergo gender transition procedures. These procedures include surgeries and various hormone treatments. And while funding these things with tax dollars seems radical to most, the Democrat Party is still clinging onto this position.

But unfortunately for them, they still don’t realize that the majority of voters (including many Democrats) are opposed to the concept of public funds being used for these gender transition treatments. Not only does this opposition hurt what the Democrat Party views as a good cause, it could also hurt them severely in upcoming elections.

Public Opinion on Taxpayer-Funded Gender Transition Surgeries A Bad Sign For Democrats

A recent survey by the American Principles Project (APP), a socially conservative advocacy group, reveals that a majority of Americans oppose using taxpayer dollars to fund gender transition procedures. The poll, conducted in early April with 1,500 likely midterm voters, highlights a complex political challenge for the Democratic Party as it navigates public sentiment on this divisive issue.

“We wanted to help educate Americans, but mostly legislators, about where Americans or how Americans feel about funding for gender identity programs, specifically in healthcare services, especially in light of Congress deliberating on spending and doing the reconciliation bills and all of that,” said Terry Schilling, APP’s executive director, in an interview with Fox News Digital. “We want to make sure that they knew just how unpopular these programs are to fund by tax dollars.”

The survey found that almost 66% of respondents believe the federal government should not finance gender transition procedures, such as puberty blockers, hormone treatments, or surgeries. Notably, 43% of voters who supported former Vice President Kamala Harris in the last election also oppose such funding—a figure Schilling described as surprisingly high. “That was a little bit higher than we typically see for Democrat voters,” he noted.

The issue gained traction during the final months of President Donald Trump’s campaign, which leaned heavily on messaging critical of transgender policies. High-budget ads targeting transgender women in women’s sports struck a chord with some voters, including one widely circulated spot declaring, “Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you.” The ad spotlighted Harris’ record of supporting gender transition procedures for incarcerated individuals in California.

Since taking office, Trump has moved decisively on what he calls “radical gender ideology.” His administration has eliminated federal funding for gender transition surgeries for minors and through public healthcare, banned biological males from women’s sports, and required transgender individuals to serve in the military according to their biological s*x.

Democratic leaders, however, have taken a different approach. In 2021, President Joe Biden signed an executive order expanding anti-discrimination protections to include s*xual orientation and gender identity in healthcare and other sectors. His administration also reinterpreted Title IX to extend those protections to education and supported state-level policies, like Colorado’s inclusion of transgender procedures in essential health benefits under the Affordable Care Act.

Schilling argues this stance puts Democrats in a bind. “The higher ups, like the elected officials in the Democratic Party, are going the other way, and it’s not going to work out well for them,” he said. “Democrats are in a really tough spot. They have to choose between 20 to 30% of the base, which supports paying for gender transitions and surgeries with tax dollars, or the swing voters, which swing voters do not want at all.”

The survey also posed a hypothetical voting scenario: “If the November 2026 general election for U.S. Congress was held today, and you knew that the Democratic candidate supports allowing federal tax dollars to pay for gender transition procedures, including puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries, would you vote for the Republican or Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress?” 52% percent of respondents favored the Republican candidate, while 39% backed the Democrat.

“I think that the more Donald Trump’s been talking about it and bringing attention to it, the more people are going to the Republican side on the issue,” Schilling observed. As debates over healthcare funding and cultural issues intensify, the APP’s findings suggest that taxpayer-funded gender transition procedures remain a stumbling block for the Democrat Party.

This is part of their “WOKE” stupidity and won’t fly with most voters, especially since they lost so dramatically in the November 2024 election.
