It’s been obvious for several years now that Joe Biden is not physically or mentally in the best shape. In fact, many believe, even some Democrats, that he’s experiencing some sort of cognitive decline that obviously affects his ability to perform as President of the United States. Even the Democrats who are silent on this can’t really deny it’s real, either.

Republicans of course have been pointing this out pretty much since Biden took the oath back in January of 2021. But in almost three years, Biden’s condition has worsened. He’s made gaffe riddled speeches and has tripped up several stair cases. The most notorious incident that put his failing mental acuity on display was during the June presidential debate between himself and Donald Trump.

During that debate, Joe Biden appeared lost for most of it and even had times where he went blank while giving an answer. That led to the Democrats pretty much forcing him to step down as the nominee for president. But before that debate, there were plenty on the Left, especially those in the media, who claimed that Joe Biden was perfectly fine and that despite being in his early eighties, he was in tip top shape.

But most Americans saw the exact opposite despite the media’s lies. They felt as though the media was trying to gaslight them into believing that the president was not suffering from any sort of cognitive decline and was instead full of energy and ready to conquer all the challenges that the United States presidency presented. However, now that Joe Biden’s term is coming to a close, one media outlet is now deciding to tell the truth, only a few years too late one might add.

The New York Times Shifts Its Stance on President Biden’s Fitness for Office

The New York Times recently performed a dramatic reversal on its portrayal of President Joe Biden’s capabilities, drawing sharp criticism from observers. Just six months ago, the paper reassured readers that Biden was in excellent shape. However, a Tuesday headline painted a much different picture: A Weary Biden Heads For The Exit.

The article quickly drives home its message. Those who previously worked to bolster Biden’s image — even as his visible struggles raised concerns — are now admitting what critics had long asserted. Biden, they argue, would have been unable to endure the grueling demands of the remainder of the campaign season, let alone another term as president. “Time is catching up with Mr. Biden,” the piece states. “He looks a little older and a little slower with each passing day… But it is hard to imagine that he seriously thought he could do the world’s most stressful job for another four years.”

This stark contrast is particularly glaring when compared to the Times’ coverage just months earlier. A June 21 article titled How Misleading Videos Are Trailing Biden As He Battles Age Doubts dismissed viral clips showing Biden appearing disoriented, claiming they were “edited or lacking context.” The narrative then was clear: Biden was fully capable, and any suggestion to the contrary was framed as a smear campaign orchestrated by conservative media.

“In the last two weeks, conservative news outlets, the Republican National Committee and the Trump team have circulated videos of Mr. Biden that lacked important context and twisted mundane moments to paint him in an unflattering light,” the June article asserted. The Times even accused critics of intentionally distorting the truth to undermine Biden’s credibility. The abrupt pivot has not gone unnoticed. Critics quickly juxtaposed the two articles, highlighting the whiplash-inducing change in tone. Conservative strategist Steve Guest remarked on X, “What a difference 179 days make for The New York Times. From: ‘videos of Mr. Biden circulating during this year’s campaign are clearly manipulated to make him look old and confused.’ To: ‘it is hard to imagine that he seriously thought he could do the world’s most stressful job for another four years.’”

RedState writer Bonchie echoed the sentiment: “The Times four months ago: ‘Those videos of Joe Biden falling asleep and slurring his words are cheap fakes. Of course he can serve another four years.’ The Times now: ‘How could anyone have imagined Joe Biden could ever serve another four years?’”

The juxtaposition of these two narratives raises questions about media credibility and consistency, especially when reporting on the fitness of a sitting president. It also shows just how serious the mainstream media is in their efforts to protect the Democrat establishment. No party, whether that be Republican or Democrat, should receive special treatment from the press. Yet, that’s clearly what happened to President Biden, especially before his disastrous debate performance in June.
