President-elect Donald Trump reveled in the resignation of Jack Smith, the special counsel responsible for leading two high-profile legal cases against him. Smith’s tenure, which Trump has frequently criticized, ended amid legal setbacks for the Justice Department and triumphs for the president-elect.
“The Stench of Deranged Jack Smith and his thugs is GONE,” Trump declared on Truth Social Sunday. “They were sent packing after spending over $100,000,000, destroying the lives of many people and families, who will never be the same again.”
Trump didn’t hold back, calling Smith “a disgrace to himself, his family, and his Country,” and asserting, “Deranged Jack accomplished nothing, except to show what complete losers my political opponents are!!!”
Smith was tasked with prosecuting Trump for alleged misconduct surrounding the 2020 election and for his retention of classified documents. Both cases were dropped after Trump’s 2024 election victory, although the Justice Department is continuing to pursue charges against two of Trump’s employees in connection with the classified documents case.
On Tuesday, Smith submitted a confidential report to Attorney General Merrick Garland. However, U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon blocked its release on Thursday. The Justice Department, in a motion filed Saturday, noted in a footnote that Smith had left his position on Friday, signaling the end of his controversial role.
“The Special Counsel completed his work and submitted his final confidential report on January 7, 2025, and separated from the Department on January 10,” the footnote read.
Smith’s appointment had been under fire for months. In July, Judge Cannon dismissed the classified documents case against Trump, ruling that Attorney General Garland’s appointment of Smith violated the Constitution’s Appointments Clause, which mandates that “Officers of the United States” must be nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. The Justice Department appealed Cannon’s ruling to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, where it remains under review.
Legal experts, including former Attorney General Ed Meese and law professors Steven Calabresi and Gary Lawson, filed an amicus brief arguing that Garland’s appointment of Smith lacked legal authority. They pointed out that no statute allows an attorney general to bypass the Senate and president to appoint a special counsel with extraordinary powers.
The financial toll of Smith’s investigations has also drawn criticism. Trump estimates the cost of his and his co-defendants’ prosecutions at over $100 million, calling it an unprecedented misuse of taxpayer money. A Newsweek analysis in November found Smith had spent at least $50 million, lending credibility to Trump’s claims of exorbitant spending.
Meanwhile, Trump continues to face other legal challenges. New York Attorney General Letitia James sued him for allegedly inflating his net worth, resulting in a massive financial penalty. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg pursued Trump for falsifying business records related to a “hush money” payment to Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels. Trump was convicted on those charges, although New York Justice Juan Merchan imposed no prison time or fines, pending appeal.
In Georgia, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis brought charges against Trump over his efforts to contest the 2020 election results. However, a scandal involving Willis, who admitted to an affair with her subordinate Nathan Wade, led to her disqualification from the case, which she is currently appealing.
Critics have decried these cases as politically motivated “lawfare” designed to derail Trump’s 2024 campaign. If that was the intention, it failed spectacularly. Trump not only overcame these legal battles but also secured a decisive victory in the presidential race, leaving his opponents and their strategies in disarray.

About time they get rid of these un-American lieing pieces of garbage
He should have to pay back all the waste of tax payors $$$ Also lose his license!!
He is one of the best examples of political abuse there is in this country.
They are fighting a losing battle and it’s going to harm them a lot more than what they tried to do to President Trump. What’s really happening is that a lot of people are leaving the Democrat Party.
Goodbye to a thug who did everything illegally. Maybe we could deport him??
Never should have tried this false venue!

Remove Them From Office
He should’ve tried to use his brains for more than sitting on them. He got less than he deserved. He should never be able to work again. Can’t be trusted to tell the truth. He belongs in a cage out of our sight. He should pay back all lost monies.
It’s about time , He was not legally appointed And what I would like to see is him behind bars He’s a disgrace to the legal system
Very glad to see him go. Just another lieing democrat.
Arrest Jack Smith doe election interference…………
Good riddance
Jack Smith should have been disbarred and never permitted to practice law in any state or district in the United States of America after the 9 to 0 finding of the U. S. Supreme Court that he had fabricated evidence in a case that he got a conviction in and was thrown out by the courts ruling.
Jack Smith is the one who should be in Jail!!!!
I’m more than relieved to see Jack Smith resign after his disgraceful, politically motivated “lawfare” against President Trump, our incoming POTUS. This entire charade has been an abuse of power, attempting to undermine democracy. While it’s satisfying to see him go, I’m disgusted that he won’t face real consequences, like the historical punishments for treason—perhaps even death or being “tarred and feathered” as they did in the annals of US history for betraying the nation. It’s a small victory, but it’s frustrating he escapes true accountability. The legal system, in its failure, seems to protect him despite his treasonous actions, showing just how broken it truly is.

As a matter of fact the same thing should be done to the garbage of so-called President that is finally being thrown out like the trash that he is. Jack Smith is as crooked as a dogs hind leg. He’s the one who needs to be investigated !!!!
I say goodby to bad rubbish.
