The U.S. Senator from West Virginia, Democrat Joe Manchin, has made headlines recently with an announcement that he will not be endorsing the Presidential nominee of his political party, Kamala Harris. The reasoning is she’s gone too far with her radical policy proposals.
The final straw was when Kamala Harris recently claimed that she was a major proponent of gutting the filibuster so that she could ram through her most radical ideas, such as codifying Roe v. Wade into law, restrictive gun laws, blanket student loan forgiveness, unrealized gains taxes, and so-called “climate change” legislation.
Vice President Kamala Harris said in an interview in Wisconsin, a key swing state in the upcoming election, that she undoubtedly supports getting rid of the filibuster. “I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe,” Vice President Kamala Harris shared with WPR’s “Wisconsin Today”.

In response, Joe Manchin has said that cannot in good faith endorse her when he’s been a major proponent of keeping radicals in the U.S. Senate from being able to ram through extremist policies by upholding the filibuster. He shared with Fox News, “I’m not endorsing her,” arguing she’s going down a dark path.
“I’ve been very, very, very clear on how strongly I believe that when you go down that slippery path, you don’t just do it for one issue,” the U.S. Senator from West Virginia shared with Fox News in an interview. Joe Manchin was a major reason why in 2021 the Democrats failed to get rid of the filibuster. Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema were the two Democrats who stood in the way, causing the initiative to fail.
Joe Manchin’s office shared a statement with the media in which he said the filibuster is designed to force U.S. Senators to work together to find commonality and agreement, rather than creating a situation where a one vote majority could dominate the country.
“This threshold stabilizes our democracy, promotes bipartisan cooperation and protects our nation from partisan whiplash and dysfunction. I have always said: ‘if you can’t change your mind, you can’t change anything’ and I am hopeful that the Vice President remains open to doing just that,” the official statement from Manchin reads.

Though he will not be endorsing Kamala Harris for President, Joe Manchin seemed to make it clear he would not be endorsing Donald Trump either. “I’m not endorsing anyone,” Joe Manchin shared in his Fox News interview.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has been quiet about the filibuster in recent months, but has said that he intends on Democrats bringing it up in the near future once more. “It’s something our caucus will discuss in the next session of Congress,” he recently shared at a Democrat leadership press conference.
Possible Strategic Misstep For Kamala Harris And Co.
While Donald Trump would have welcomed the endorsement from Senator Joe Manchin, the reality is that the bigger aspect of this is Manchin refusing to endorse Kamala Harris. West Virginia neighbors Pennslyvania to the south, and is a stone’s throw away from Michigan to the north. This is the region that will be so critical to win in November.
Kamala Harris going on record that she wants to get rid of the filibuster so she and her politically-aligned D.C. bureaucrats can get their way no matter what was probably not a good idea with just a handful of weeks to go until Election Day arrives and a winner will be crowned between Trump and Harris.
U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) slammed Kamala Harris for the announcement that she wants to gut the filibuster, saying that it risks losing undecided and independent voters in states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. She declared it an “absolutely terrible, shortsighted idea.”
Ironically, while Kamala Harris has been lying about Donald Trump trying to federalize the issue of abortion though he has made clear dozens of times he has no such intentions, it is the Democrats who are wanting to remove any hurdle in their way so they can get their way on abortion and federalize it once more.
Furthermore, this idea that the Democrats will only get rid of the filibuster for one issue, that being abortion, is ludicrous and laughable. Any political party in power will then have the precedent set to do whatever they want if they have a 51-49 vote in the U.S. Senate. Not only that, but this also paves the way for a Vice President to cast a tie-breaking vote in a 50-50 split as well.
After the abortion issue will certainly come unilaterally adding Justices to the U.S. Supreme Court, socialist Green New Deal policies, brand new tax burdens like unrealized gains taxes, anti-Second Amendment gun restrictions, and much more.
According to Monmouth University surveys, only about 7% of Americans believe the filibuster should be outright gutted entirely, suggesting the vast majority of Americans agree that it helps prevent radicals from any political party from being able to ram through extreme agendas.
Do you think this was a strategic mistake for Kamala Harris? As always, let us know what you think in the comments below.
