Washington, D.C. Sees Dramatic Crime Reduction After Trump Takes Action

Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital, should be a place where safety and pride are present, reflecting America’s best values. Visitors from around the world, whether tourists visiting the Capitol dome or dignitaries engaging in diplomacy, deserve to experience a city free from crime.

For Americans, ensuring the capital is secure isn’t just a practical goal—it’s a testament to national unity and strength. A safe D.C. sends a clear message that America protects its own, which creates an environment where families can explore monuments, students can visit museums, and all can walk the streets without fear of being a victim of a violent crime.

This vision of a secure capital is vital for both citizens and the nation’s global image. A crime-free D.C. welcomes visitors to a city that embodies the best of America. It’s a goal that every American can get behind, ensuring Washington, D.C., stands as a proud representation of the nation.

Recent developments have brought this vision closer to reality. Since President Donald Trump federalized the city’s police department on August 11, Washington, D.C., has seen a significant drop in crime. According to Metropolitan Police Department data reported by Breitbart News, the 11 days following federalization show significant declines across multiple crime categories compared to the prior 11 days.

Carjackings, for example, fell by 83 percent, with just one incident from August 11 to August 22, down from six between July 31 and August 11. Motor vehicle thefts decreased by 37 percent, dropping from 154 to 97 cases. Robberies were slashed by more than half, with 21 incidents under the Trump-led police force compared to 44 in the earlier period.

Violent crime overall plummeted by 40.2 percent, with 49 incidents reported since August 11, down from 82 in the previous period. Homicides dropped by 50 percent, with only two recorded in the last few weeks.

Assaults with dangerous weapons saw a 32.4 percent reduction, and arson incidents disappeared entirely, marking a 100 percent decline. Total crime in the city fell by 14 percent, reflecting a rapid shift toward a safer capital.

On Friday, President Trump spoke about the ongoing efforts to enhance safety in Washington, D.C., calling on Mayor Muriel Bowser to openly seek assistance in addressing crime. “They needed help. They don’t like to say it. I wish they’d say, ‘I need help.’ I wish the mayor of DC would say, ‘You know, we’re overridden with crime and we need help,’ instead of saying the stats are down,” he stated.

He also questioned the accuracy of crime reporting, saying, “I mean, they’re under investigation now for fake numbers, where they fudged the numbers. And they did, there’s no question about it.”

Trump reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring the capital’s safety for all visitors. “We are going to make D.C. totally safe. When people come from Iowa, Indiana, all of the beautiful places, and they come, they’re not going to go home in a body bag. They’re not going home in a coffin,” he emphasized, pointing to the need for a secure environment for everyone exploring the city.
