Since Donald Trump’s emergence onto the national, political scene in 2015, the strategy from the Democrats to counter him has been to play the fearmongering card as much as possible. In the lead up to the 2016 general election cycle, they claimed that he was just “out of his mind” and an “unserious person” who would never win the Republican primary for President. Not only did he win the primary, he did so in a landslide fashion, too.
Then the race between him and Hillary Clinton boiled down to him being a “r*cist” and a “s*xist” who was mentally unstable and unable to fulfill the role of the President of the United States. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton was apparently a bastion of American excellence and the most well-qualified candidate for office the nation had ever seen in the modern age. The mainstream media outlets like CNN and MSNBC ran propaganda coverage 24/7, calling Trump “basically Hitler” all day and night until the ballots were cast. Then Trump won against Hillary Clinton in a convincing way.
Did this stop the propaganda machine? Absolutely not. It only got worse. During Donald Trump’s first term, the Democrats pulled everything out of the book to fearmonger more and more and more. First it was that he was a “Russian puppet” President for Vladmir Putin, then it was that he was going to somehow rebirth the KKK, and then in 2020 it was that his failures in handling the pandemic their way would cause everyone to die to the 2020 virus.
Certainly for his third time running for President, the Left would have learned a lesson or two, right? Of course not. They doubled and tripled down on the extremism and ran an entire campaign about how Trump was a “threat to democracy” and “literally Hitler” this time around. The fearmongering will not stop from the Democrats, but they don’t realize that is what’s causing them to lose so much these days.
Clinton Pollster Begs For Democrats To Stop The Fearmongering
Former Clinton campaign pollster Doug Schoen recently weighed in on the Democratic Party’s approach to opposing President Donald Trump’s policies, claiming that their strategy of “scaring people” is unlikely to yield positive results.
This comment came after the Trump administration began implementing an executive order to reevaluate and realign foreign aid spending, a move that has drawn considerable backlash from Democratic lawmakers. On Tuesday, several Democratic members of Congress joined protests outside the headquarters of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Treasury Department to voice their opposition. Schoen discussed the situation on Fox & Friends, where he told co-host Ainsley Earhardt that the current strategy of fear-based rhetoric is not an effective way to win back voters.
“Fundamentally, I think the party should be cooperating with President Trump where the issues he’s taking on, like immigration, have broad public support,” Schoen explained. “The economy where broad public support. Reducing the size of government. You can differ with the president on substance where that is in line with party principles, but to just oppose him and just spite him proves to be a recipe for failure in the last election and we’re facing the consequences, Ainsley, of that right now.”
Schoen’s comments came in response to a video clip showcasing Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and LaMonica McIver of New Jersey, alongside MSNBC hosts Jen Psaki and Joy Reid, and CNN contributor Van Jones. The group expressed their concerns about the Trump administration’s push to shut down the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and claimed that reducing USAID’s budget could result in lives being lost due to a reduction in foreign aid.
“Well, Ainsley, you make a number of points. Let me take them up,” Schoen began. “First, Americans want a smaller government. That is undeniable. Second, it is entirely appropriate to say to President Trump, we don’t think we need to cut a third of the budget, we don’t need to eliminate the number of employees he is talking about with Elon Musk, talking about reducing.”
He went on to clarify his stance, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the core issue. “But there is a clear desire to reduce the size of government, and internationally, the scope of foreign aid is almost certainly too broad and less targeted to where our friends and allies are,” Schoen argued. He also criticized the Democrats for what he described as “fear-mongering” and “reckless hyperbole” rather than offering constructive alternatives.
“I think we Democrats do a much better job looking at the policies and offering alternative visions and alternative policies rather than, as you rightly put it, Ainsley, fear-mongering, scaring people and engaging in reckless hyperbole,” Schoen added.
The debate over the future of foreign aid and government efficiency reached a new level when representatives from DOGE and the State Department gained access to the USAID headquarters on Friday night. According to ABC News, the team faced a brief standoff with agency employees but eventually succeeded in reviewing USAID’s spending to align it with the Trump administration foreign policy objectives. The situation escalated further when President Trump, along with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who leads DOGE, announced plans to shut down USAID. Secretary of State Marco Rubio cited the refusal of USAID employees to cooperate with DOGE’s mission as the main reason behind the decision to close the agency.
