A top Justice Department official has ordered federal prosecutors to dig deep into George Soros’ liberal empire, zeroing in on whether his Open Society Foundations have been bankrolling outfits that back terror and violence.
The directive, straight from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s desk, pushes for investigations into possible charges like arson, wire fraud, racketeering, or even material support for terrorism against groups tied to Soros’ massive grant machine, according to reports from The New York Times.
This crackdown draws from a hard-hitting report by the Capital Research Center, a watchdog that’s been calling out conservative targets for years. It claims Soros’ network dumped a whopping $80 million into organizations linked to terrorism or extreme unrest, naming names like the Center for Third World Organizing, the Ruckus Society, the Sunrise Movement, and the Movement for Black Lives.
On top of that, cash has poured overseas to groups like Al-Haq in the West Bank, which just got slapped with sanctions by the U.S. State Department this month for its shady dealings. The order went out Monday from Aakash Singh, who used to work as chief counsel for Sen. Chuck Grassley and now serves under Blanche. It landed in the inboxes of U.S. attorneys in key spots: New York, Maryland, D.C., Detroit, Chicago, and California, per The New York Times.
When pressed, DOJ spokesman Chad Gilmartin played it cool in a Thursday statement, neither confirming nor denying the memo. But he made it clear: department officials and the U.S. attorneys offices “will always prioritize public safety and investigate organizations that conspire to commit acts of violence or other federal violations of law.”
Missouri’s Sen. Eric Schmitt, a no-nonsense Republican, cheered the news when speaking to the New York Post. He said he’s “glad the DOJ is investigating these shadow networks for potential criminal misconduct and hope it brings those that have funded political violence and riots in violation of our laws to justice.”
Schmitt didn’t hold back, blasting the whole setup: “For too long, left wing dark money groups like the Open Society Foundation have been funding left wing anarchy and violence across the country.”
Soros’ Open Society Foundations aren’t small potatoes—they shelled out over $1.2 billion last year alone, all in the name of “promoting justice, equity, human rights, and democratic practice” through their sprawling web of grants.
Naturally, the foundation fired back in a Thursday statement, insisting: “The Open Society Foundations unequivocally condemn terrorism and do not fund terrorism. Our activities are peaceful and lawful, and our grantees are expected to abide by human rights principles and comply with the law.”
The spokesperson kept going, calling it all out: “These accusations are politically motivated attacks on civil society, meant to silence speech the administration disagrees with and undermine the First Amendment right to free speech.” They warned, “When power is abused to take away the rights of some people, it puts the rights of all people at risk.”
Wrapping up their defense, the rep declared: “Our work in the United States is dedicated to strengthening democracy and upholding constitutional freedoms. We stand by the work we do to improve lives in the United States and across the world.”
This DOJ push comes hot on the heels of tragedy, right after conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk was assassinated. Vice President JD Vance and White House insider Stephen Miller have been plotting a full-court press against left-wing groups stirring up trouble.
Miller laid it out raw on The Charlie Kirk Show, hosted by Vance post-assassination: “The organized doxing campaigns, the organized riots, the organized street violence, the organized campaigns of dehumanization, vilification, posting people’s addresses, combining that with messaging that is designed to trigger [or] incite violence and the actual organized cells that carry out and facilitate the violence.” He hammered home: “It is a vast domestic terror.”
Vance jumped in, vowing action: “We’re gonna go after the NGO [non-governmental organization] network that foments, facilitates, and engages — that’s not OK.” He specifically called out Soros’ Open Society Foundations and the Ford Foundation, stressing: “Violence is not OK in our system, and we want to make it less likely that that happens.”
The VP also ripped into Soros for supposedly bankrolling a vile piece in The Nation that tried to justify Kirk’s m*rder—though the magazine got a five-figure grant years ago for internships, with nothing since 2020.
That Capital Research Center report from Sept. 17 pulls no punches: “Open Society has sent millions of dollars into U.S.-based organizations that engage in ‘direct actions’ that the FBI defines as domestic terrorism.” It spotlights the dirt: “These groups include the Center for Third World Organizing and its militant partner Ruckus Society, which trained activists in property destruction and sabotage during the 2020 riots, and the Sunrise Movement, which endorsed the Antifa-linked Stop Cop City campaign, in which activists currently face over 40 domestic terrorism charges and 60 racketeering indictments.”
The document also exposes: “At the same time, Open Society awarded $18 million to the Movement for Black Lives, a group that co authored a radical guide that glorifies Hamas’s October 7 massacre and instructs activists in the use of false IDs, blockades, and economic disruption.”
President Trump himself weighed in back in August on Truth Social, suggesting Soros and his son Alex—who’s stepping up in the family business—should get hit with RICO charges for propping up the “radical left” and fueling “violent protests.” Meanwhile, Sen. Schmitt, who runs the Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, is gearing up for his own takedown. Sources say he’s set to unleash a probe into left-wing outfits pushing political mayhem or linked to homegrown terror threats.
This whole saga exposes the underbelly of elite funding that’s been propping up chaos on America’s streets, from riots to radical agendas. With the DOJ finally stepping up, everyday folks might see some real accountability for the billionaires playing puppet master.
