President Donald Trump is eyeing a bold upgrade to the iconic West Wing, home to the Oval Office, as part of his ambitious vision to revitalize the White House.
The plan involves stacking an extra floor right on top of the current one-story structure, specifically over the spot where the press room sits.
This move would create a balanced look, matching the height of the main White House building and the massive new ballroom that’s already under construction, according to an official.
Of course, building up there might mean temporarily kicking out the mainstream media swarm the press room, forcing them to find another spot while the work gets done.
The idea came to light during a meeting of the National Capital Planning Commission on Thursday, where architect Shalom Baranes spilled the details.
“We’re considering the idea of a modest one story addition to the West Wing,” he stated. Baranes kept it light on specifics, offering no sketches or further breakdowns.
But savvy observers know Trump has been mulling this for a while—back in August, he was caught strolling the West Wing roof, calling it just a casual walk but teasing that bigger things might be brewing.
Trump kicked off his ballroom project in October by tearing down parts of the East Wing, fed up with the cramped setup that limits big gatherings.
Naturally, the left-wing busybodies at the National Trust for Historic Preservation are throwing a fit, suing to halt the work and claiming the administration skipped hoops like independent reviews, congressional nods, and public input.
Thursday’s session marked the debut public rollout of Trump’s grand designs for the White House grounds, with officials tackling tough questions head-on.
They highlighted their commitment to honoring history while pushing for essential fixes to infrastructure and security.
Baranes unveiled eye-catching renderings of the ballroom, explaining its 89,000 square feet would align perfectly in height with the 55,000-square-foot residence.
“The reason to think about that is so that we would reinstate the symmetry around the central pavilion of the White House. We have not looked at that at all, yet. We hope to do so in the future,” he stated.
The new addition boasts a sprawling 22,000-square-foot ballroom, plus office spaces, a dedicated suite for First Lady Melania Trump, and even a private movie theater.
A grand two-story colonnade will link it seamlessly to the existing White House, blending old glory with modern flair.
Trump’s putting his money where his mouth is, pledging to cover the $400 million tab himself alongside private donors—no taxpayer dollars wasted here.
