Democrat senator makes a confession that will utterly shock you

During an episode of CNN’s The Arena, Democratic Senator Peter Welch from Vermont laid out why President Trump’s latest pick for Homeland Security Secretary, Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin from Oklahoma, is set to sail through Senate confirmation. This comes as a breath of fresh air after the rocky tenure of Kristi Noem, and it’s got folks buzzing about real change at DHS.

Welch didn’t hold back, pointing out that Mullin’s got what it takes where Noem fell short. It’s rare to hear a Democrat sing praises for a Trump nominee, but here we are. This moment highlights how Trump’s choices are forcing even the opposition to recognize true leadership.

“Yeah, he’ll be confirmed,” Welch declared outright. He went on to question if there’d be support from both sides of the aisle, but made it crystal clear that Mullin’s strengths make him a standout.

The Vermont senator emphasized Mullin’s reliability in no uncertain terms. “The question is whether there’ll be bipartisan support for him. Markwayne Mullin is competent and he’s honest. So, those are two good things that Kristi Noem did not have,” Welch stated.

Welch sees this as a chance to dive into the real issues plaguing DHS. “This is going to give us an opportunity to have a real discussion about what’s going on with with Department of Homeland Security,” he added.

Trump’s agenda has always prioritized securing America first, and Mullin’s role could supercharge efforts to stop illegal immigration and restore order.

Reiterating his respect, Welch described Mullin as someone who commands attention. “Markwayne is — he’s respected, he’s honest, and he’s competent,” the Democrat said.

It’s telling that even a liberal like Welch can’t deny Mullin’s solid reputation. This could pave the way for more bipartisan wins under Trump, focusing on policies that put everyday Americans first.

Shifting to policy, Welch highlighted key concerns for the upcoming hearings. “The questions we have is about the FEMA agenda, and we’re going to have an opportunity to talk to him,” he noted.

FEMA’s role in disaster response ties directly into homeland security, and populists are eager to see Mullin push for reforms that cut waste and boost efficiency for hardworking taxpayers.

Welch then listed out strong stances against overreach. “We oppose having untrained people. We oppose having no knock warrants and no warrants,” he said, drawing lines on civil liberties.

Continuing his list, Welch made clear: “We oppose having unmasked agents. We oppose invasion into work sites and churches and schools.”

Finally, Welch wrapped up by focusing on the bigger picture. “So, we’re going to have a discussion with him about that. So the issue, I think, with Markwayne, is going to be much more about the policy and what he is going to be offering us as we look ahead, rather than his personal qualities, because people respect Markwayne.”
