President Donald J. Trump just delivered a knockout punch to Canada’s sneaky trade tactics, pulling the plug on all negotiations. In a blast on Truth Social, Trump exposed how the Ontario government cooked up a phony ad campaign dragging Ronald Reagan’s name through the mud to bash U.S. tariffs.
While U.S. borders bleed from fentanyl pouring in from the north, Canada’s provincial bosses in Ontario drop $75 million on slick commercials twisting the words of Reagan himself. They’re weaponizing a deceased president’s voice to meddle in U.S. courts and elections. Trump saw right through the con, and he hit back hard, putting American jobs and security front and center.
“The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs,” Trump wrote in his post on Truth Social.
“The president said the $75 million ad was made ‘to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts’ in cases challenging Trump’s authority to issue tariffs.”
Trump’s no stranger to fighting dirty tricks from abroad, and this time he’s drawing a line in the sand for every red-blooded American tired of foreign freeloaders. “TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A,” the president said. “Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.”
Up north, Ontario Premier Doug Ford thought he could play hero by rolling out this one-minute spot last week, cherry-picking old Reagan audio clips to claim tariffs are a dead end. Ford’s crew figured they’d flood American airwaves with their sob story, pretending like open borders and weak trade deals are the path to riches.
“Using every tool we have, we’ll never stop making the case against American tariffs on Canada. The way to prosperity is by working together,” Ford said while speaking about the ad.
This propaganda blitz isn’t staying quiet in some backwater—it’s blasting on Newsmax, Bloomberg, Fox News, Fox Sports, NBC, CBS, CNBC, ESPN, ABC, and even local stations, as reported by the CBC.
As Trump pointed out, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute called foul, blasting Ontario for hijacking the 40th president’s words without a shred of permission. They zeroed in on the ad’s dirty tricks, pulling snippets from Reagan’s April 25, 1987, “Radio Address to the Nation on Free and Fair Trade” and warping it into an anti-tariff hit job.
The foundation laid it out plain: “The ad misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address, and the Government of Ontario did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks.”
“The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is reviewing its legal options in this matter.”
At the heart of this showdown are Trump’s 35% tariffs slapped on most Canadian imports, a tough-love response to Ottawa’s failure to plug the fentanyl pipeline flooding our streets. We’re talking deadly drugs that claim thousands of American lives yearly, smuggled right under their noses.
Come next month, the Supreme Court steps up to bat in a blockbuster case testing whether Trump can wield his full tariff powers without Washington elites tying his hands. Ontario’s ad stunt reeks of desperation, a last-ditch ploy to sway justices and sway public opinion.
